The “Read-2-Lead” Programme is designed for secondary school students in Nigeria. Under this programme, SWAYA donates at least 100 leadership and self-development books with a Bookshelf to selected secondary schools to enable the students read books and materials outside their regular curriculum and build their capacities as future leaders.
Research has shown a dearth of reading culture among our youths. Scholars have also argued that this adversely affected the quality of leadership over time. In recognition if this lapses, SWAYA introduced the Read-2-Lead programme in 2015 to help secondary students to bridge these gaps. Other objectives of the project is to help youths at the secondary school level with poor reading skills to cultivate reading habits, develop themselves positively and keep away from social vices in the society. Since its inception in 2015 when in was launched in Rumubiakani in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, the programme has expanded and extended to Community Secondary School, Wiiyaakara and Marian High School, Bane in Khana Local Government Area in 2015; Bodo City Girls and St. Pius X College, Bodo City in Gokana Local Government Area in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
