Society For Women And Youths Affairs on the 16th of September, 2019 in partnership with Junior Chambers International extended her Read-2-Lead and livelihood projects to the Maximum Security Prison, Port Harcourt.
The objective of the Read-2-Lead and livelihood projects is to change the mindset of inmates positively, reduce crime rate in the society and empower them with skills for alternative livelihood when free from the prison custody.Presenting the book shelve containing 100 motivational, inspirational and self-development books to the prison warder, Stella Amanie, the Executive Director of SWAYA told the warder that both SWAYA and JCI decided to partner and bring the project to the prison based on the statistical evidence of crime rate and the congestion in the Maximum Security Prison in Port Harcourt, River State. She further stated that she has no doubt in her mind that if inmates take advantage of the development, it will certainly develop their internal capacity to handle issues especially in the area of conflict resolution which will eventually reduce crime rates in the society.
Also speaking, the JCI Port Harcourt President, Mr. Henry Aka, appealed to warders to encourage inmates to read the books donated by the team and thanked the Maximum Security Prison, Port Harcourt for their cooperation which made the programme successful.
Miss Ngozi Anyanwu facilitated the training on the production of insecticides and disinfectants. During the training, she introduced to the inmates the production of insecticides and disinfectants, materials required, standard operating procedures for the production and practically demonstrated how to produce insecticides and izal.
More than 200 male inmates who were present at the event, benefited from the training.
Speaking on behalf of the inmates, Mr Nna thanked SWAYA and JCI for the donation of mini-library and livelihood training given to the inmates and promised to take advantage of the support for their self-development.
