Consequent to the panic and anxiety that gripped Port Harcourt residence particularly women about the serial killing of ladies in Hotels in the State, Society for Women and Youths Affairs and other women organizations in the State in pursuit for justice in Rivers State and the protection of lives and property as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria joined other women groups on a Peace Walk Against SERIAL KILLING of women in the State. The walk took place on the 18th September, 2019 in the capital city of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.The various women groups made demands during the event that the violence against women must stop and that the security agencies must also demonstrate professionalism in the discharge of their duties to unearth whoever is responsible for the barbaric act against women no matter how highly placed the person is in the society.
The Executive Director of SWAYA, Stella Amanie speaking to the media at the event challenged the security agencies to be more scientific in their investigation in order to unmask the perpetrators behind the serial killing of women. She argued that the victims may not all be commercial sex workers as generally believed and reported in especially the social media. She finally appealed to media houses and social media influencers not to be hasty in reporting without verifying the information taking to any platform.
