Today CSOs stood in solidarity and support with the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project in the sensitisation of Ogoni ex-artisanal refiners in Gio community town hall in Tai local government area of Rivers State.

We know that ex-artisanal refiners, have faced immense challenges, from the dangers of informal refining to the difficulties of transitioning to formal, safer practices. Their struggles are not unknown to us, and we acknowledge the complexities of their situation.

However, we also recognize the immense potential that lies within each of them. Their skills, expertise, and resilience are invaluable assets that can be harnessed for the betterment of our communities and the environment.

As we move forward together, it is essential that we prioritize their well-being, safety, and economic empowerment. We must work tirelessly to provide them with the necessary support, training, and resources to thrive in the formal refining sector.

This journey will not be easy, but with committed to walking alongside them every step of the way. Working with the governments, NGOs, and the private sector entities to ensure that their rights are protected, and their interests are represented.

Together, we can create a brighter future, where ex-artisanal refiners are valued, respected, and empowered to drive positive change. Let us unite in solidarity, determined to overcome the challenges of the past and forge a new path forward.
