On the 24th July, 2019 Society for Women and Youths Affairs (SWAYA) received two foreign Journalists and researchers, Mr. Moritz Frisicorn and Mr. Robin Hinsech lead by Comr. Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface at her office, #5 Uyo Street, Rumoumasi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The research is for the Great Report produced in Germany with support of the City of Hanburg, a project at informing the German and European Citizens about the social and Environmental development in the Niger Delta.

Specifically, the researchers came to find out SWAYA’s contributions to the social and environmental development of the Niger Delta.

Responding, the Executive Director of SWAYA, Stella Amanie took time to introduced Society for Women and Youths Affairs to the researchers and told them about her organizational contributions to the development of the Niger Delta which is tied around the four thematic areas namely Education, Health, Development and Environment. She further said that as a result of the environmental degradation done in Ogoni land by oil multinationals which has tremendously affected the livelihoods in Ogonis, SWAYA, has been carrying out alternative livelihood programs such as fish farming, snail farming, bee farming, mush room farming and piggery especially in impacted communities of Ogoni and appealed to the researchers to help draw the attention of the international communities to come to the aid of the Ogoni people who has suffered tremendously in the area of alternative livelihood support.

Also speaking, the Program manager of SWAYA, Mr. Collins Lebeteh Kenneth added that apart from the agropreneurship programme, the organization also carries out other skills trainings like fashion and also educational support projects under the Read-2-Lead and Back to School project. He further explained that under the Read-2-Lead project, SWAYA donates book shelves containing 100 motivational, inspirational and self-development books to college students and that the objective of the project is to change the thinking of youths in school on how to find enduring positive solutions to their challenges and make them self-reliance by reading at least one self-development, inspirational and leadership book a month.

Responding, the researchers thanked Society For Women And Youths Affairs for the warm reception given to them and also commended SWAYA for the impacts made so far in the Niger Delta Region and promised to see what they can do to support the organization.

Finally, the Executive Director of Advocacy Centre, Comr. Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface thanked the researchers for the research development brought to the Niger Delta and expressed optimism about the positive impacts the research will have on the Niger Delta people and its environs.
