We join peoople around the world today to celebrate World Water Day 2025 with the theme: “Glacier Preservation,” highlighting the critical role of glaciers in sustaining life and the water cycle, and the urgent need to address the impacts of their rapid melting, also the role in preserving freshwater supplies worldwide and the urgent need for conservation efforts in the face of climate change.
As we celebrate World Water Day today, we are reminded of the critical importance of water in sustaining life, livelihoods, and ecosystems. Yet, millions of people worldwide still lack access to safe and clean drinking water, and the threat of water scarcity and pollution looms large.
On this World Water Day, we call on the government, businesses, civil society, and individuals to accelerate progress towards a water-secure future. In other to achieve this we must:
1. Increase investment in water infrastructure: Improve access to safe and clean drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services.
2. Promote water efficiency and conservation: Encourage responsible water use practices, reduce waste, and protect water sources.
3. Support climate-resilient water management: Develop and implement climate-resilient water management strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
4. Foster international cooperation and knowledge sharing: Collaborate across borders to share best practices, technologies, and expertise to address global water challenges.
We use this opportunity to appreciate the Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project and his team for being resolute to change the narrative in Ogoniland through the provision of potable water for the people and working intentionally towards the sustainability of the facilities. We appreciate the team from Ministry of Water resources who provides technical support for these projects in each community and also thank Community Leaders and dwellers for their involvement in making these projects a reality as we encourage them to take ownership and jealously protect these precious gifts of life given to them for generations to come.
.
Together, we can ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to safe and clean drinking water, and that our planet’s precious water resources are protected for future generations.
From all of us at Society for Women and Youths Affairs (SWAYA) join in us in celebrating World Water Day 2025 and in our collective efforts to create a water-secure future for all.”
