The Society for Women and Youths Affairs (SWAYA) is a non-governmental organization whose goals are to alleviate the suffering of women, youths and children who are the poor and vulnerable in the society. This is targeted at improving beneficiaries’ quality of life and to contribute to global efforts of increased access to education, safe environment and health care. SWAYA, with a strong commitment to achieve her goals through building community resilient conducted a 6-Day training on Sustainable Waste Management as an alternative means of livelihood for young people in the Niger Delta region that encourages environmental sustainability in partnership with Ogoni Youth Advancement Network. As a pilot project, SWAYA is committed to its sustainability to ensure that value chains in Renewable energy sources are harnessed for the promotion of environmental sustainability.

The program covered recycling of plastics, biogas production, Waste legislation, regulations and compliance in Nigeria, socio-environmental impact in waste management and climate change, Safety Precautions in Waste Recycling of Plastics, Biogas plants/digester construction, Emerging Technologies for sustainable waste management, Transition into formal sector and the evolving role of CEOs.

Also covered in the training were fabrication, construction and installation of biogas systems, fabrication of cookstoves for biogas, biogas to electricity, biomass briquettes production, waste recycling (solid liquid), sewage biodigester construction training respectively.

The Sustainable waste Management Training organized for beneficiaries from oil-producing areas in the Niger Delta region. The program covered recycling of plastics, biogas production, Waste legislation, regulations and compliance in Nigeria, socio-environmental impact in waste management and climate change, safety precautions in waste recycling of plastics, biogas plants/digester construction, emerging technologies for sustainable waste management, transition into formal sector and the evolving role of CEOs.

It ran through 31st July to 6th August 2020.

 27 beneficiaries, 10 females and 17 males were drawn from the oil producing communities in the Niger Delta.
