In commemoration of the International Day of Education, Society for Women and Youths Affairs visited some secondary schools in Khana Local Government Area to appraise the impacts that have been made in the lives of students and teachers of schools that benefited in her Read-2-Lead project which aim at donation of more than a hundred (100) copies of Self-Development books in 2017 for students and teachers access.
At Marian High School, Bane in Khana local Government area of Rivers State, the Executive Director of Society for Women and Youths Affairs in her introduction remark stated that her team visitation to the school was not a fault finding one but one that seeks to evaluate access of students to the books and the impact reading of the books have on the lives of the student. In responding to access to books, all the students agreed that they have unhindered access to the books.
Sequel to the preceding, the Executive Director asked any student to tell of any book they have read and their impressions from such book. One of the students: Ansen Enebari said she has read the book: Power of Self Confidence. The book talked about power to conquer our fears and improve capacity to be bold. From reading the book, she is developing her capacity for public speaking and knowledge building. Another student; Osilagoda Hagar said she has read: unleashing your potential by John Mason. She derived great ideas on facing challenges and how to stay positive in every life endeavor.
The Executive Director of SWAYA commended the effort of the students and stated the need to be educated through reading as reading opens the mind to so many possibilities. Speaking further she said, the project was aim at building capacity of students and teachers to think, be creative and be innovative. That reading such books helps students to be self-reliant and independent, rather than wait for government jobs. This eventually leads to peaceful development and prosperity of individuals and nations at large. The teachers were not exempted as they need such knowledge as they can only give what they have. Though in her time, she was not opportune to access such self- development books, now they are opportune with access, students should engage their time meaningfully at this their development stage for a better future. They should not limit their academic pursuit to only studying Mathematics and English. etc.
The Senior Prefect in her vote of thanks, thanked the organizers for the books donated as they are inspirational and develops one’s capacity to think citing examples of some of the books she has personally read and the benefits she has derived from it. The students were finally addressed by the Principal to meet the teacher in charge for access to book at their free time.

At Community Secondary School Wiiyakara in Khana local Government area of Rivers State, the Executive Director of Society for Women and Youths Affairs also asked the students if they find the self-development books donated in book shelves to the school in 2017 accessible and the impact reading the books have on their lives.
In responding to access to books, the students seemed not to be aware of availability of such books. Most of them claim not to have been there at the time the books were donated.
The Executive Director, further advised that, student should show interest in reading such books as it is meant for their mental and idea developments. The idea was not to limit knowledge attainment to only Mathematics and English language alone but also to build one’s capacity for innovativeness and courage in handling real life challenges. She further informed the students that Society for Women and Youths Affairs also undertake to help indigent primary school pupils back to school by making available school bags, shoes, raincoat and other ancillary that will help to keep school going children in schools always. The organization is also into skills development with a physical skills hub stationed at her office and other training sites. The organization is also into awareness campaign and advocate for policy and societal change for peace and development. She networks with other groups is dealing with issues surrounding rights violations and abuses.
In his vote of thanks, the senior prefect of the school on behave of others was grateful for the visitation of SWAYA team to the school and is optimistic that all advices on will be put to good use and are happy about the human rights work of the organisation.
