On the occasion of Afrika Vuka Day 2025, SWAYA proudly joined forces with the vibrant students of Rivers State University and various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for a powerful Activism Workshop and Intergenerational Learning Session held in Port Harcourt.

The workshop served as a vital space for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and collective reflection—bridging generations of environmental activists and advocates in anticipation of a just, fossil-free future for Africa.

Through spirited dialogue and hands-on sessions, participants explored the urgent need to transition away from fossil fuels, highlighting the devastating impacts of extractive industries on our environment, health, and livelihoods. Young voices shared their visions of a cleaner, greener, and more equitable continent—one driven by people-centered solutions rooted in African realities.

As part of our message, SWAYA joins others across the continent in demanding that African leaders:

  • Reject imposed technologies and external narratives that do not serve our people or ecosystems
  • Champion a truly Just Energy Transition—one that is inclusive, locally driven, and community-informed
  • Invest in renewable, sustainable, and indigenous energy solutions that empower rather than exploit

Afrika Vuka Day reminds us that the power to shape our future lies in our hands. Together, we rise to resist exploitation, amplify local knowledge, and build climate resilience from the ground up.

The time for a fossil-free Africa is now. Let’s keep the momentum alive.
